Flabbergasted-ness!

Gwen Last week I was gobsmacked to read about the now controversial issue regarding the (alleged) 10,000 member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students demanded that the upcoming Gwen Stefani Sweet Escape concert in Malaysia (21st August 2007) be banned.

Why ban the concert?  Because these alleged 10,000 students who are allegedly staunch Muslims think that the scanty costumes and obscene behaviour of the ADS PROMOTING THE TOUR would clash with the local ‘conservative’ Islamic values.

“Her video clips promoting the event are too obscene,” Mohamad Hilmi Ramli, the group’s president told Reuters. “We want the organisers to cancel the concert, failing which we will ask the authorities to intervene.”

Wait, wait.  There’s more. He also added that the concert “promotes a certain degree of obscenity and will encourage youths to emulate the Western lifestyle.”

Like the Western lifestyle is morally wrong. Oh, it’s not over.  Hilmi goes on to criticise the organisers for promoting the concert. “[The organisers] has been staging a series of foreign acts to make a profit and to expose our young generation to things such as MORAL DECAY.”

WOW!

Moral decay because of a Gwen Stefani concert?  Oh yes.  Our constitutions, morals and ethics are so weakly inadequate and delicately fragile that a mere concert with gyrating nubile females in midriff baring couture will disintegrate our beliefs and corrode our values, consequently turning us into depraved lunatics revelling in hedonistic debauchery.

That was a lot of really big words in a row.  Heh.  Here’s another really big word.  Supercallifragalisticexpiellyfuckyou.

If you chafing asswipes don’t want to be exposed to flesh and lewd conduct, don’t go! Sure, Gwen is going to kick up a storm but hey, don’t worry, the rest of us aren’t going to suffer any ‘moral decay’ I promise.

Gwenstefaniharajuku And honestly!  Scanty costumes?  Please!  Gwen Stefani and her 4 Harajuku Japanese backup dancers are so flat chested there’s NOTHING they could possibly flaunt that can be considered sexy. And if showing belly buttons is too much then maybe Gwen and posse should perform in Burkhas.  And isn’t that kinda hypocritical?  Middle Eastern belly dancers wear scantier outfits and gyrate more.

And how the heck can these self righteous, paranoid asshats say that Gwen is promoting a bad image? She a happily married woman, mother of one, successful businesswoman, actress and recording artist and unlike frequent rehab visitors like Britney and Lindsay, she’s got a squeaky clean image.

I feel that these Islamic watchdogs are nitpicking over this very trivial matter (a pop concert for crying out loud!) because they don’t have the mental capacity to think of other more important things to take up.  Allah forbid them to speak up with the same passion against abuse of power, corruption & racism, and even the cruelty of the Taliban regime.  Allah forbid that they show some tolerance to the other half of the nation that’s NOT Muslim and letting us enjoy Gwen’s concert in peace. May Allah also forbid that they really think on their values and learn to practice what they preach.

This country sucks.  In the words of Gwen Stefani; “If I could escape…”

p/s:  The concert is still happening despite their religious protests.  WOOT.
